Lets talk a little about the Life Cycle of Head Lice
Lice eggs, or nits, are laid by adult female lice around 1/2 inch from the hair. This is to ensure that they are close to the food once they hatch. It takes lice between 7 to 10 days for each egg to hatch and the nymphs, newly born lice, then need to feed within one hour of hatching.
Once the lice have matured, which takes just a few days, they are ready to lay eggs of their own and they are capable of laying 6 eggs each day and will live for up to 30 days. Lice can life for up to 48 hours without feeding.
Do You Know How To Check For Head Lice
The very first thing you want to do is to make a parting down the centre of your childs head from the forehead to the nape and check along the parting. You are looking for both lice and nits. Lice are around the size of a sesame seed and nits are clear white and very very much smaller.
Once you have checked that parting make parting parallel to that one until you have looked everywhere on the head. Take special not of the areas behind the ears and at the nape of the neck as well as the crown.
